Kane7 Hatakeyama Seicha’s organic matcha for commercial use is hugely popular in overseas cafés

Myowa, a Japanese-style café in Taiwan, is extremely popular among young people. It serves Kane7 Hatakeyama Seicha’s organic matcha and other products.

台湾のジャパニーズカフェ和茗(みょうわ)さんは若い世代に人気のカフェで、カネ七畠山製茶の有機抹茶などのお茶をご利用いただいております。

We spoke with Mr. Wang, the owner of Myowa, about Kane7 Hatakeyama Seicha.

和茗(みょうわ)のスタッフと京都ほっこり庵七之進

I was searching for a company that handled organic matcha

Stricter regulations are being put on imports from other countries in recent years, and items that were previously permitted are being banned due to pesticide residues. For this reason, we can only procure organic items. I had previously bought from another tea processing company for around three years via a trading company, but they didn’t handle organic matcha.

I was searching online for another partner when I found Kyoto Hokkorian 7noshin's website. I e-mailed you because I saw that you carried organic products.

I wanted to work directly with a trustworthy tea company

We are serving more and more matcha as time goes on, and I wanted to order directly from a Japanese tea company instead of going through a trading company.

When I e-mailed Kane7 Hatakeyama Seicha, you responded very quickly and politely. I felt great peace of mind even when making my first order. In addition to prompt e-mail responses, I was also able to order samples very quickly. More than anything, I was relieved that you provided the quality and prices I was hoping for.

Mr. and Mrs. Hatakeyama personally visited Taiwan recently. Thank you very much.

Kane7 Hatakeyama Seicha is a company with a long history and "Kawaii" packaging

Kane7 Hatakeyama Seicha is a long-established company, and when I looked at the website the package designs with cute maiko (apprentice geisha) caught my eye. I hope to sell these products in Taiwan if possible. Your website is also very cute, and I felt that we share the same target demographic of young people.

Japanese tea and culture are enjoying increased popularity in Taiwan

Taiwan is in the midst of a Japanese tea craze, and Taiwanese people love matcha. In addition to your products, I hope to learn more about tea and sweets including Japanese trends and hit products!

I look forward to promoting Japanese culture together with Kane7 Hatakeyama Seicha.

JAS-certified organic tea

Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS)-certified organic tea for commercial use from Kane7 Hatakeyama Seicha Co. Ltd. is 100% organic and grown with no pesticides in the Dosenbo Highlands, which are 500 meters above sea level. This region is located at Minamiyamashiro-mura in Soraku-gun on the southeast edge of Kyoto Prefecture, a famous Ujicha tea production area.

We met Masahiro Fuseda, the seventh-generation head of this tea producer, 10 years ago. We were deeply impressed with his passion regarding tea cultivation.

Masahiro's father Yoshinobu Fuseda, the sixth-generation head, began growing 100% organic, pesticide-free tea in 1980. He was inspired to do so because of his poor health at the time when he applied pesticides to his crops.

Yoshinobu strongly felt, "I can't drink this tea, nor can I sell it to other people…" For this reason, he embarked on the cultivation of 100% organic, pesticide-free tea.

The concepts of "organic" and "pesticide-free" are well known today, but at that time Yoshinobu had to learn through trial and error. For example, this type of production uses no herbicides and requires a great deal of manual labor, such as pulling weeds by hand. This process also included many difficult challenges that Yoshinobu had never experienced before.

However, the shift to 100% organic, pesticide-free production brought back the beneficial insects that ate harmful insects and had previously been exterminated through the use of agricultural chemicals. There were more microbes and bacteria in the soil, which improved the health of the dirt and tea grown in it.

Thanks to the power of Mother Nature, Yoshinobu came to recognize the importance of natural agriculture that co-exists with the natural world.

Using agricultural chemicals and chemical fertilizers cuts manual labor and production costs, and also enabled mass production. However, it has had major impacts on nature in exchange for convenience and efficiency. Of course, it also affects the people engaged in agriculture as well as the consumers that drink the tea.

Our producer is constantly dedicated to 100% organic, pesticide-free growing methods because they are in tune with nature and result in products that can be consumed with peace of mind. I wanted to bring 100% organic, pesticide-free tea to many people based on my simple desire to support this type of agriculture.

In the history of tea and rice production, agricultural chemicals and chemical fertilizers have only been used for the past 50 years. We offer 100% organic, pesticide-free tea—created through traditional agriculture in harmony with nature—as a way to return to the methods of long ago and for the future and health of our customers and their family members.

JAS-certified organic matcha

JAS-certified organic matcha

Topic 1: Different ways of drinking matcha in overseas countries

Speaking with people who serve matcha in overseas countries, we have heard that it is frequently enjoyed by itself or mixed with almond milk.

We recommend bitter matcha (No.7500 or No.10000) for mixing with sweet drinks like almond milk.

When serving matcha by itself, we recommend No.13000, No.15000, or No.20000.

Topic 2: Varieties of matcha

There are two types of Kyoto Ujicha leaves: Yabukita and Okumidori. Their different characteristics are described as follows.

Yabukita

This variety has an overall favorable balance and is frequently made into sencha. It has a masculine, powerful flavor with a good finish. Large amounts of this variety are harvested, and it offers a good price-performance ratio.

Okumidori

This variety has a brilliant color and feminine, mellow, smooth taste. It is perfect for making gyokuro or matcha teas.
